Homeopathy is one of the latest natural healing trends. The Society of Homeopaths defines homeopathy as “a system of medicine which is based on treating the individual with highly diluted substances given in mainly tablet form, which triggers the body’s natural system of healing. Based on their experience of their symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to the patient.”

Homeopathy operates on the principle of “like cures like”. A totality of symptoms must be gathered from the patient, including physical, emotion, and mental symptoms. It is only then that the remedy that best matches the symptom picture is looked for. Homeopathy doctors will then match the symptoms that are caused in healthy patients by a particular substance. Once that substance is found, it follows that it has the best chance of producing a curative response. Simply put, the “Law of Similars” goes on the theory that the substance that would cause specific symptoms in someone with good health is used to cure those same, specific symptoms in someone with poor health.

But how do homeopaths discover which remedies work for various symptoms and illnesses?

There are three different ways that the medicines are found:

 1. Toxicity symptoms (such as diarrhea and vomiting caused by various poisons or toxins)
2. The “signature” of the medicine. This is an ancient medical theory that’s based on the characteristics of various substances. The Society of Homeopaths gives the example of deadly nightshade’s large black berries resembling dilated pupils during high fever.
3. Proving the effectiveness of a substance. This involves testing the substance on a group of healthy participants who then record all of their symptoms. When there is an agreement of symptoms, this remedy is recorded and used in future cases.

Once the remedy is found, it is given to the patient in the least amount possible. This limits the possible side effects and increases the remedy’s gentle actions so that the patient can be cured.

While it’s something that can take a while to understand, it’s clear that the forces behind homeopathy are doing something right: it definitely works!

Patients who are very young, very old, female and/or pregnant or nursing presents special challenges and risks for health care professionals, particularly when it comes to the class of prescription drugs known as dopamine antagonists such as Reglan.

If one thinks of the brain as the body’s “server” and the nervous system as the “network” that carries instructions to the various cells, or “terminals” responsible for the operation of the body’s organs, feedback mechanisms and such, dopamine is the “electricity” that carries the messages. The “interface,” or “modem” that translates these signals for cells are called dopamine receptors. Drugs such as Reglan prevent these receptors from receiving such signals from the brain.

Every living body changes over time, and the needs of young children are quite different from geriatric patients. When it comes to a powerful drug with as many potential side effects as metachlopromide, or Reglan, such issues as stage of life, gender and whether or not a woman is pregnant must be carefully considered.

Although there has been no evidence to show that Reglan can pass the placental barrier between mother and fetus, it is always unwise for a pregnant woman to take any sort of medication unless her life and that of the fetus is otherwise threatened and there is no other choice.

Research has shown however that Reglan can be passed to a nursing baby though breast milk. Since the effects of Reglan on young children can be severe and immediate, it is best to avoid Reglan while nursing.

Other problems that women may experience while taking Reglan include excessive tenderness and sensitivity of the breast as well as changes in menstrual patterns.

Blueberries are some berries that is part of the group known as forest fruits or berries. Blueberries were prominent among the fruits of the forest on their property-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibiotic.

It is a food calorie (or calorie negative) which means we spend more energy than those who eat the fruit gives us, so has great value in diets. Besides reducing the blood sugar which makes them very beneficial for diabetics.

The main proven benefits of blueberries
According to Wikipedia, Escherichia coli or E. coli is a bacteria usually found in the stomach and intestines animals including humans.

While this and other bacteria are necessary for the proper functioning of the digestive process, mutations of these bacteria can produce strains that cause diarrhea or urinary tract infections such as cystitis.

Cranberries contain two compounds that have anti-adhesive properties that allow the bacterium E. Coli adhere to urinary tract epithelial cells, thus preventing infection. That is why cranberry juice is a preventive measure against urinary tract infections that also reduces the need for antibiotics.

But in addition, blueberries contain quinic acid, (a substance that is removed), which acidifies the urine, preventing urinary tract infections and preventing them from forming stones or renal stones of calcium phosphate (but not other types of calculations).

The blueberries and their antioxidant properties
Again we turn to Wikipedia and found that antioxidants are a heterogeneous group of substances consisting of vitamins, minerals, natural pigments and other plant compounds and enzymes that block the harmful effects of free radicals.

The term antioxidant means preventing harmful oxidation of other chemicals, caused in metabolic reactions or produced by exogenous factors such as ionizing radiation. What interests us is that these processes are associated with the aging process. Some fruits and vegetables contain many natural antioxidants like vitamins C and E.

The bluberries (blueberry, blackberry, blueberry) contain 14 mg of vitamin C and 0.8 mg vitamin E per cup. In addition, also contain a pigment called anthocyanin and flavonoid pterostilbene that act as antioxidants. According to the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston, USA blueberries are among the fruits which have greater antioxidant power.
The anthocyanin, a plant enzyme that gives color to blueberries could be the key component of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this fruit.

Protect the Heart
This powerful anti-oxidant is associated with an increased DHL or good cholesterol, which decreases the chances of heart disease.

The flavonoids act as powerful antioxidants and may reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, the accumulation of fat in the arteries is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease. Blueberries contain high amounts of flavonoids and polyphenolic components have been shown to inhibit this phenomenon.

The gum health
Studies published in the Journal of the American Dental Association reported that a single component of cranberry juice has the ability to reverse and inhibit co-aggregation of certain oral bacteria responsible for dental plaque and periodontal disease.

Potential cancer prevention
In cancer prevention, the results are promising but not definitive. Laboratory studies by University of Illinois showed that blueberries have potential anticarcinogenic properties.

What is dental caries?
Tooth decay is the progressive destruction or excavation, more or less rapid and extensive hard tissue of the tooth left to its own devices, can lead to various complaints and complications and finally lead to loss of teeth affected. This disorder is so common, is caused by the action of acidic substances produced by bacteria that are part of the microbial flora of the mouth. It can attack any tooth may appear as early as three years.

Trends in caries
Tooth decay is a chronic progressive evolution once it has been digging the tooth surface, and never remits spontaneously, but it keeps moving in depth. At first, begins with the disintegration of a point from the toughest tooth enamel, where it forms a tiny hole. But over time, the cavity becomes increasingly large, through the tooth enamel and reaches the dentin, extending into the tissue and eventually reaches the pulp of the tooth and determines the infection. At this time, because the symptoms are very obvious and most serious complications begin.

The different steps of a cavity:
1 .- Top: The decay involves the enamel and no symptoms
2 .- The child has pain because it affects dentin caries
3 .- The child has trouble Cevera because the decay reaches the pulp and promotes their infection, the danger is that if it spreads beyond the root may produce a phlegmon.
4 .- Finally, the decay destroys the tooth’s crown and serious complication of infection can cause fictula.

How do we study a cavity?
The dental caries can easily be discovered by inspection of the teeth, but sometimes decide to practice X-rays to assess the extent of the cavity or diagnose complications in bone tissue surrounding the tooth root.

Radiography for caries
To make the radiograph, the dentist inserts a small plaque inside the patient’s mouth and then activate the X-ray machine, without involving the slightest discomfort.

The process of a cavity
Symptoms
* In the initial stage, when the cavity is limited to dental polish, does not cause discomfort. At the time of tooth decay reaches the dentin, is a sore point by pressing the affected tooth and eating food and drinking sweet, very cold or very hot.
* As the decay spreads through the dentine, pain becomes more frequent and intense.
* By causing inflammation and infection of the dental pulp, the pain becomes continuous and very intense due to direct irritation of the nerves, and may even reach the throat, ear and face.
* The destruction of the pulp usually cause bad breath (halitosis)

Complications
* Periapical dental abscess. Designate a pocket of infection in bone tissue surrounding the tooth root, is very painful and is sometimes accompanied by fever, malaise and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
* Dental phlegmon. Involves the extension of the abscess, inflammation and infection of soft tissues are among the affected root and gum. It appears as a red lump under the gum causing intense pain when pressed.
* Apical granuloma. Corresponds to the formation of a connective tissue capsule containing the spread
infection. It causes no symptoms, but it is a permanent source of infection

Consequences
* The cause painful discomfort in chewing difficulties, and especially in young children, can lead to eating disorders
* The extensive destruction of dental tissues involves the loss of a tooth, either because the tooth is broken
or because their extraction requires
* The loss of teeth (temporary or permanent) which causes problems of malalignment and malocclusion.
* The presence of a serious source of infection is a potential hazard, since the bacteria can invade the blood vessels. The loss of teeth and consequent defects in chewing favor the production of new cavities.

Causes of decay
Must look at several factors that predispose to caries dietary, bacterial and individuals. To prevent disease development are not enough isolated measures must act together against all of them with the most appropriate measures. Section of a decayed tooth view scanning electron microscope on the right side shows the normal dentin, which provides regular screening characteristic hardness, while the left side you can see the dentin fragmented and invaded by bacteria.

The danger of sweets
The decay is due to the corrosive effect of acids produced by bacteria that are part of the microbial flora of the mouth, to degrade the sugars from food. To prevent its development is recommended to limit consumption of sugar and sweet foods and sweets of all kinds, especially those with hard or elastic consistency and can more easily adhere to the teeth.

It is typically female fly with imagination. But in this note we will not talk “of being on the moon”, but for air travel. Sometimes it’s by necessity, sometimes go on a “Last Holiday” with no baby. Are there risks? What care should have?

Changes in the air
When any person boarding a flight, undergoes some changes in his general condition and symptoms such as nausea and / or vomiting, dizziness, stuffy ears, headache or tightness in the throat. Not everyone who happens to them, nor on every trip, nor at all stages of the tour. Sometimes it’s just taking off and landing, sometimes just an air shaft.

When a woman is pregnant often have feelings that were not common in various stages of gestation, without being as passage of any aircraft, so may be confusing, if you choose this mode of transportation, any nuisance described in the their own state.

It is believed that pregnant women are not more likely than others to have any of these conditions described earlier. Obstetricians and pediatricians say the pregnant woman, although discomfort can feel with some discomfort, no risk to fly on particular airlines reliable.

Legal Issues
However airlines are legally protected and as part of the reality of any pregnancy, any complications that may arise, limiting the issue to not allow his staff continue to fly after the sixth month of gestation. They suggest that the passengers travel only until week 39 without any special order after this period must complete before launching a document releasing the company from any liability in case of any disturbance generated or premature delivery.

To be more safe
If you want to minimize the maximum possible complications and be more relaxed than ever without losing the plane, Please note:

-Travel as possible after the first quarter and before the last month.
-Wear comfortable, loose shoes, socks soft.
“Use the belt provided that they indicate, but below the pelvis.
“Take everything you think you’re going to need in the cabin, but then do not use.
“I walk every hour to prevent edema in the feet.
“Eat only what you really want to give you, there will be time to thoroughly nourish, when arrives. Do not overload the stomach.
-Remember if suddenly afraid, that everything is under control, your baby will be fine if you’re okay.

If we respect children’s time should be when available, when lifting with a dry diaper, when asked to go to the bathroom or potty seat (potty). That is the age at which children can or are able to control. However, not always the case.

Often, before a family situation that requires it, such as starting the garden, holidays, a family trip or stay overnight elsewhere, are required to start controlling sphincters when in fact they are not ready yet. At times, long before the two years. Hopefully close to three.

From this we mean when we say enuresis: children who pee during the night or sometime during the day but on several occasions, to those who, having learned to control their sphincters for some time, for some reason they stop. When, how, where and why questions are not arbitrary. If it happens to four years is almost “normal” (this usually happen if you began to control early).

Above all it appears in certain situations: for example at night or because a parent is traveling, because you will have a sibling or a move there. But when this happens regularly do pay attention and observe. If comes after four years, once the children learned, is called intermittent enuresis and late, and is considered pathological. Bedwetting may also start after a period in which the child has learned to be dry, perhaps because the learning process caused undue stress.

Enuresis as emerging from a family situation
In families there are dialectical and dynamic interactions and some children are marked by them. What we realize is that this symptom are the spokesmen of a sometimes troubled family situation. Parents should know that children do not pee on purpose, do not “them”. In general, people are too shy and uncomfortable when it happens.

Parents can always help their children trying to understand the situation. And seeking professional help, because when the source of psychological enuresis is not the doctor can make a referral to a urologist for children to dig the functioning of the kidneys and urinary tract. In any case, be of psychological origin, or not, is indispensable to be vigilant and to accompany them.

Every year, early spring and especially in summer, have extensive information campaigns and prevention of sun protection, the harmful effects of solar radiation on the skin, the relationship between sun exposure and skin cancer, among other things.

Mothers of babies and toddlers are lucky to abundant information provided by the media, dermatologists, pediatricians and the same processors sunscreens. Many times the information is confusing, frightening or even wrong or contradictory. It is therefore important to review in a clear and simple FAQ and some basic guidelines for skin care for babies and toddlers and also reject some myths about it.

The first thing to remember and apply without exception is the following rule to sun exposure:
* Newborns and babies under 6 months should never be exposed to direct sunlight.
* Infants over 6 months to 3 years but can be exposed with great care (see tips below), for short periods and using a protection factor broad-spectrum SPF 40 or higher.
* Over 3 years: Must be exposed to sunlight because it is a producer of vitamin D but not be exposed to an intense tanning, erythema (redness) or burns. Must bring your SPF sunscreen to their skin phototype.

Useful Tips for making the exposure of infants and toddlers solar safer:
* Apply sunscreen abundantly at least 15 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapply every two hours as sweat and friction against towels can remove product from skin. Children perspire more than adults so it is necessary that is pending. Reapply immediately after long dives, even if your protector is water resistant.
* The application must be complete and even. This includes the face, lips, hands, feet, neck and ears. The most vulnerable parts of your body are the places that are not normally exposed to sunlight.
* Avoid direct exposure between 11 am and 3 pm when solar radiation is greatest. If you must go between these hours, cover your child with light colored clothing, a hat and apply plenty of sunscreen. Plan your playtime and outdoor activities before 11 or after 3 pm.
* Please note the following:
or clouds and fog do not protect skin from ultraviolet rays. Protect it properly even on cloudy days
or UV rays increase with increasing altitude. Take special care in mountain areas.
or grass, earth, water, snow, sand and sea foam reflect from 10% to 80% of ultraviolet radiation.
* The use of sunscreens does not prevent heatstroke.
* Check your child ingests a sufficient water. It is very important to stay well hydrated.
* Do not wait until you feel uncomfortable before taking preventative action. The best protection is defense. Once the burn occurred, the damage is already done. Consult your doctor or dermatologist when you notice deep burns, blisters, sores, fever or other abnormal reactions.
* Please note that the products of “total protection” does not exist although it is common to find in the market, no sunscreen that protects against UV rays completely.

ATTENTION MOTHERS: It is a great myth that sun exposure is required to prevent deficiency of Vitamin D. The truth is that some UV radiation is essential for the body as it stimulates the production of vitamin D. But five to fifteen minutes of casual sun exposure to hands, face and arms two or three times a week during the summer months is sufficient to maintain high levels of vitamin D.
